Jean Ann (Gumm) Whitaker, age 76, Mankato, KS resident, passed away Monday April 14, 2025 at UNMC Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE, with her daughter Tammy and son in law Ray by her side. Jean Ann was born to Bob and Marguerite Gumm in Frankfort, KS on April 18, 1948.

Jean Ann attended school in Mankato, KS from kindergarten through high school graduation.

Jean Ann married the love of her life Whit Whitaker February 20, 1968. To this union, one child was born, their daughter Tammy.

Jean Ann worked at Dubuque Packing in the office paying for cattle and various other duties. She was also a bartender for many years and worked at LaCrosse Furniture Company.

Jean Ann was a magnificent cook and loved to bake. She always had a smile on her face and was loved by everyone. She helped anyone who needed help when she could. She loved her cat Miss Kitty and spending time with her fur grandchildren Roman and Bailey. She loved being outside pulling weeds, planting flowers, fishing, and going on the pontoon boat with her Frost Family. She especially loved texting her brother Bobby and could always count on Weatherman Bob for any updates in bad weather conditions. The one thing that Jean Ann loved the most and was most proud of was her daughter Tammy. They had a bond that went way beyond mother and daughter.

Jean Ann is preceded in death by her parents Bob and Marguerite, her brother Martin, husband Whit, grandson Zachary, fur grandson Clyde, nephew Todd, and sister-in-law Carolyn.

Jean Ann is survived by her daughter Tammy and son-in-law Ray Winters, her brother Bobby, The Mike Frost Family; “Mikey”, Vanessa, Danica, and Hunter. Her beloved cat Miss Kitty, fur grandchildren Roman, Bailey, and Willie, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and her many friends.

Jean Ann is loved and will be missed immeasurably by her family and everyone who knew her.

Memorial Services will be April 26, 2025 at 11:00am at the Christian Church of Mankato, Mankato, KS. The burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been established in memory of Jean Ann to be designated at a later date.
