Calvin Lynn Bohnert, 72, died September 5, 2022 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas

Calvin was born February 23, 1950, in Beloit, Kansas to Fred and Hazel Bohnert. He lived his entire life in the Jewell area, graduating from Jewell High School in 1968. He attended NCKVT school in Beloit, Kansas earning a degree in Farm Mechanics.in 1969.

Calvin married Peggy Griffeth March 31, 1979. This union was blessed with three children, Joshua, Marla, and Tracy. Calvin took great pride in their accomplishments. However, his greatest pride and joy were his 14 grandchildren and their accomplishments.

Farming the land and raising hogs and cattle were his life’s ambition, being one of the first in Jewell County to use the then new practice of No-Till farming. Cleaning and selling seed wheat to area farmers became a side business he took great pride in.

Calvin belonged to the Jewell Christian Church, local and state Young Farmers, Kansas Wheat Improvement Association, Jewell Volunteer Fire Department, and Mitchell County Rural Water District, serving as president for many years.

Calvin enjoyed fishing, attending the many events of his grandchildren, collecting antique tractors and machinery, big and small, competing in tractor pulls, attending farm auctions, and participating in local parades with his Farmall C, candy cannon, and grandchildren.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Peggy¸ Jewell; son, Josh (Lori) Bohnert, Jewell; daughters Marla (Jeff) Koops, Downs and Tracy (Jared) Sulsar, Hunter; fourteen grandchildren; LeNae Knight, Ashlyn Knight, Lundyn Knight, Kinley Bohnert, Kolby Bohnert, Isaac Koops, Eli Koops, Joanna Koops, Elsa Koops, Carson Koops, Jabin Koops, Aiden Sulsar, Mason Sulsar, and Kimber Sulsar; brother, Darrell (Debra) Bohnert, Jewell; sister-in-law Linda (Mike) Richard, Miltonvale; brother-in-law, Robin (Deb) Griffeth; brother-in-law, Bill (Melanie) Griffeth; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bob and Miola Griffeth, and infant granddaughter, Kassidy Sulsar.

Visitation will be Thursday September 8, 2022 from 1:00pm – 8:00pm at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Jewell, Kansas, on September 9, 2022 at 10:30am.

Burial will follow at the Wallace Cemetery, Jewell.

In lieu of flowers to honor Calvin’s interest memorial contributions may be made to Emerson Lake improvements in care of the Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, Kansas. Make checks payable to ‘City of Jewell’.
